Pyx (ostrich egg, sterling silver) designed and created by Pestelli Creazioni
This ciborium is inspired by the classic meaning of the egg (the resurrection) and the late Renaissance classic forms that evoke the charm of the Wunderkammer. It is made by sectioning an Ostrich Egg and building the Silver support around it. The silver parts are made by lost wax casting and all the parts are joined together using the construction technique with pins and threaded screws.
* Pyx (or pix): 1. Ecclesiastical: the box or vessel in which the reserved Eucharist or Host is kept – a watch-shaped container for carrying the Eucharist to the sick; 2. A box or chest at a mint, in which specimen coins are deposited and reserved for trial by weight and assay. (Dictionary.com)
