Ammonite – 100 million years ago (work in sterling silver with original Ammonite fossil from Madagascar).
Unique Piece – Designed and handmade by Pestelli Creazioni
Ornamental work designed and handmade by the Florentine atelier Pestelli Creazioni. Inspired by the mechanical objects that populated the mysterious WunderKammer (Chamber of Wonders) of the Renaissance, such as the famous Tribune of the Uffizi in Florence, where extraordinary objects were collected for their intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics.
This artwork is made with an original Ammonite fossil from Madagascar (datable to millions of years ago) adorned and laid with handmade sterling silver. Pestelli conceived this design by reflecting on the age of these precious fossils – from 3 to over 100 million years – and symbolically made them “walk again” with the feet of birds. The legs and the silver structure are made by lost wax casting. The shapes thus merged were first adapted to the shape of the shell and then worked in chisel and graver to create an exclusive work of which there is only one specimen.
